Wicklow Hockey Club has a dedicated team of volunteers. Without Volunteers, the Club cannot exist. There would be no Junior Hockey, no Summer Hockey, no Summer Camps or Senior Teams. Right now, our Committee is looking to the next season, and we have several critical vacancies to fill:
Club Children's Officer: This is perhaps the most crucial role in the Club, and we need three new volunteers to fill these vacancies. Why three? Because WHC has a significant and growing Junior Section, we must have at least two for a club of our size. With almost 400 junior players, we should have three CCOs to share the workload.
The Club Children's Officer has the following functions: To promote awareness of the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport in Ireland within the Club and particularly among the children and their parents/guardians. (Hockey Ireland)
The CCO also checks the Club records to ensure that every Volunteer in contact with underage players has been Garda Vetted and completed a Level 1 Safeguarding Course for Children in Sport. As new Volunteers step up, you will be able to guide them with their certification.
In this way, the Club can continue to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for our children. Without the CCOs, the Junior Section of the Club would have to close, our Senior Teams would lose most of their players too. The Club covers your training costs, and you have the full support of the Club Committee.
